Sage 50 CA 2018.3 and Payroll Tax Changes for July 1, 2018

4 minute read time.

Are you a Sage 50 CA user with payroll in Ontario?

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The recently elected Ontario government has decided to roll back the tax changes planned for July 1st in Ontario. Our Tax Table update was already created and it was too late for us to go back. Therefore, we are going ahead with the July 1st update for everyone and still recommend that all clients install the 2018.3 update.

Our research and development team has provided the following: Sage 50 CA 2018.3 Hotfix

The release of Sage 50 CA 2018.3 was made available to all customers on an active Sage Business Care plan between June 18 - 26, 2018. Also, note that the tax update was made available for auto-download for SAN partners on June 13.

Visit the Sage Knowledgebase article  88076 (FR 260-1008014) to get the direct download for the update, however, your Sage 50CA software should prompt you once it's available.

What's new for Sage 50 2018.3?

No major changes, unless you are in PEI. Read the full PDF, "What's new" document provided on the KB 88076 here (to be updated again soon*).

If your Sage 50cloud support plan includes payroll tax updates, you have access to inhouse automatic tax calculations to help with accurate payroll processing that is fast and reduces the risk of tax penalties at year-end.

Sage 50 CA's payroll module requires a Sage 50cloud subscription to access it, and an add-on subscription that says "with Payroll"  for automatic tax calculations and e-filing capabilities (for T4, ROE, RL-1 submission).

Pricing for this option includes 10 employees to start, see KB 10625 for more information and or contact Sage 50 CA sales at 1-888-261-9610 to enable it in your Sage 50 software.

What payroll taxes changed?

Prince Edward Island

The basic personal amount has increased to $8,660 from $8,160. Since the previous amount has been used for employees for the first six months of this year, a basic personal amount of $9,160 will be applied for the remaining six months commencing with the first payroll in July.

Before you start processing payroll

What do you do with this info?

See this KB12266 (KB20164 for FR)  for instructions on how to manually change the basic personal amount in your Sage 50CA software.

  • Review the new federal TD1 form and the TD1 form for your province or territory (or the TP 1015.3-V form for Québec) to become familiar with any changes.
  • Provide your employees with the 2018 federal/provincial/territorial TD1 forms if they need to make changes to their personal claims.
  •  Adjust your employee records in Sage 50 Accounting to reflect the new tax credit amounts.
