Since the Check number comes from DBpipeline:Checknumber  and is equal to 12345  (example)  then the additional text "X00" needs to be added to the
CHECK #  text that preceeds (red arrow)    Woulld look like CHECK #  X000,   keeping the Font, size and all formatting consistent is critical for a seamless look. and another text box after the DBpipeline:Check_No to close off the the "look"  with a "X" at the blue arrow

If check numbers are 3 digits   ( 100-999)   ex.   X000999X
if chek numbers are 4 digits (1000-9999) ex  X0009999X
if check numbers are 5 digits (10000-99999)    ex X00099999X

I am trying to figure out how to use DisplayFormat to create the desired output in one field. Am I correct in understanding that you are suggesting that I use labels or text boxes on either side of the check number?

the format is call regular expressions operations, I've only seen it in programming

The form designer does seem to allow the kind of formatting I am looking for - there's a right-click menu item called DisplayFormat, but I can't get it to work the way I want it to.

Understood, Vince. I was able to get close, but not 100% I am guessing that it is just a bug in BW

UPDATE: I solved the problem by using this format:

!\c0000\c;0;

My solution does not generate leading zeroes, but it does produce useable output by prepending and appending the necessary characters to the check number. Ultimately, I had to "brute force" my way to the solution; I really wish there was some documentation on how the formatting works. For example, I have no idea why there's an exclamation mark at the beginning, and why the format ends with ";0;". I did notice that sometimes when I made changes to the DisplayFormat entry, the software would not reflect the changes in the output until I exited the module and reloaded it.
