How to Configure tsadmin From Workstation

On the server I can go to tsadmin to view licenses. On users workstations I can't and would like to be able to do this. At least from one of the computers so one person can check licenses. On workstations I go to Special / Time Slips Administrator and Licenses/Logins is greyed out. I click on View Network Databases and configure the server name, opened ports 4000 and 3050 on the firewall and it shows a connection made to the database however licenses/logins is still greyed out.

On the workstation, Outside of Timeslips go to start > programs > Timeslips > Timeslips Administrator. Then right click and choose Run As Administrator. Let us know if that works.

Unfortunately, I see the "Run as Administrator" solution given far too often.  In many cases it results in more problems than it solves.

When you run at the elevated access level by doing so, you are no longer running as "Roger" but now as another user running at the "System" level.  In many cases, mapped drives do not exist for the "System" user as they were not inherited by the original logged in user of "Roger".

Hence in this particular case, the path to the CFG file would not have been found and the error described would have continued.  As we state in our documentation, using a UNC path and avoiding mapped drives altogether would circumvent this exact issue and resolved this from the beginning.

Yes, there are workarounds to the drive mapping/drive missing issues by making a registry change much like it was done in the Windows 7 and prior world.  Searching the web for EnableLinkedConnections should result in the answer, but this is strictly a Windows issue and not one that we at Sage should normally provide guidance on.

As Caren notes, Timeslips Administrator is only available in the Start Menu on the server installation.  It can be added using Windows techniques to the workstations if desired, or accessed from the Special menu from within Timeslips.

Note that firewall ports only need to be open on the server, and do not need to be open on any workstations.
