Timeslips Issues after moving to a new Computer

I moved Timeslips 2016 to a new Microsoft Surface Pro 6 computer. Most things went well and it is up and running with my data intact. I can enter data and print bills.

However, I am having the following issues (which were not happening on my old computer):

1. When Timeslips starts, I get an error message that either there is no current email client or the current email client cannot fulfill the messaging request. It tells me to set Outlook as the default mail client. I have Outlook 365 running on this computer and Outlook is set as the default mail client, both in the Options and in Windows Settings. I have unset it and reset it as the default but continue to get the same error message whenever I open Timeslips. Is there a fix for this?

2. After I hit OK for the above error, I get another error that says "Unexpected Database Path" and says that the current database path does not match the database path in Scheduled Backup Settings. It basically says to delete and create new backup schedules. However, when I try to run the Scheduled Backups from the File menu, I get an error message that says "Exception EOSerror in module Tsschbkpservice.exe at 0000I20D, System Error Code 5, Access is denied. Some components for the Schedule Backups feature may not be installed properly. Please reinstall Timeslips." Since I just installed Timeslips, not sure how this could not be installed properly. Do I really need to reinstall Timelslips or is there some other way to get this working?

    1.  you have to have Outlook installed on the computer. My understanding is that Office 365 includes a license to install Outlook 2016 32 bit version on your workstation. If you do this then Timeslips can talk to Outlook. It cannot talk directly to Office 365 (cloud).

    2. Is you computer the server or a workstation? The scheduled backup must be setup on the server and have full permissions to run. If you are on the server, within Timeslips I believe you can setup the scheduled backups from under the file menu. You may want to close Timeslips and reopen by right clicking the icon and choose run as administrator and then setup the scheduled backup.

    1. I have Outlook installed directly on my computer and not in the cloud. It is Outlook 64 bit version if that makes a difference. It was set up the same way on the prior computer and worked fine. If this cannot be resolved, then it is a minor issue to hit "OK" each time, but still a hassle. I did try to change the default to Windows Mail and opened Timeslips, but that didn't make a difference. I switched it back to Outlook and I still get the error. Why does it need access to an email client anyway?

    2. I have Timeslips on only one computer and not using it in a server/workstation mode. I followed your instructions and opened it as Administrator and this worked to allow me to delete the scheduled backup and now Timeslips opens without this error. I assume this occurred because I restored a backup from my prior computer which had the backups going to an external hard drive which was not connected to the new computer.

    1, Timeslips requires the 32 bit version of Outlook. You will need to uninstall and reinstall the 32 bit version. 

    2. Your assumptions are probably correct. Glad it is working.

    Thanks. Just wondering why Timeslips needs access to a mail client at all?

    It is a "feature" that is on by default on a new install.  Some folks like to automate emailing their bills when they produce them.  Timeslips supports this as part of the Generate Bills function by creating a PDF, and attaching it to a boilerplate email message.  It then wants to hand that off to the email client for delivery.

    Yes, in the features enabled. You want to turn off email bills.

    Thanks. There was no feature called turn off email bills, but I found one that said "Outlook Link". Once I unchecked that, no more error messages! Thanks for telling me where to look.

    One other question: I was having display issues and turned on the compatibility mode so that things would display properly. Now all of the various screen's icons are so small, they are essentially not viewable. Is there any way to enlarge the icons in the various screens?
