Thank you for contacting us. The students could download the Sage 50 2017 software version from Step 3 at the link: https://www.sage.com/ca/about-us/education. Have them go through the registration process to acquire codes by email to activate the 2017 student version (it's free and it doesn't matter if they've already acquired the 2016). They won't have to worry about the 2016 install on their computers.

Any 2016 formatted data files just need to be opened on the installed 2017 version, they may need to be converted which the program will prompt for automatically.
