How can I restore my Current.prt file from a Seagate backup utility?

SOLVED

Somehow our Current.prt file was deleted and a new one was created when we processed a payroll on January 10, 2018.  Now the Current.prt file contains only the data from that payroll.  We use the File Tools>Copy function to back up our transaction and master files each week.  The previous files are simply overwritten each week.  The procedure was done on January 12, 2108, before we discovered the Current.prt file did not have all the transactions we need.  So my backup file created using the File Tools utility is useless.

We have a Seagate utility backing up all our server files every night to an external drive.  I cannot seem to restore the files from a backup done before January 10, even though the utility say the files were successfully restored.

is it possible to restore my Current.prt file from a Seagate backup utility?

Sounds like you will need to restore from the most recent backup with the transactions needed. Before overwriting files I would make a copy of what you have for safe keeping.

To restore from the file level copy backup you will need to restore the current.prt AND the corresponding folder under pvdata folder. This file should be named similarly current_prt or something. With both the file and folder restored your transactions should appear.

It sounds like it might be time to engage your IT consultants help.  It might very well be possible to restore the files, but without specific error messages or someone that understands the software to push it around to get the results you are looking for, it would be impossible to give you that answer thru this forum.

You need to restore the data folder to an ALTERNATE location so as not to overwrite any of the data in your existing data folder.  Once you have the restored data, add it to Sage 300 CRE as an additional company folder.  Open Payroll and verify that the data you are looking for is present in the current.prt file.  At that point you should be able to use Tools > Move > Checks > Current to Current, and choose your current dataset as the destination for the transfer.

The question for me, is how did the Current.prt get deleted.  If the entire Current.prt was archived to history, then the file would be deleted.  If this is the case, then you don't need to restore data, you would need a different procedure to move your 2017 checks from history back to current.  In either case, I suggest taking a manual backup of the company folder prior to doing any restore or archiving.

Note: If you plan to restore the whole company to a different location, you will want to create the company first to avoid potential issues with Security Administration.
