SMTP Service Fails with BusinessWorks 2018

SUGGESTED

Hello,

I just installed a clean copy of BW2018 + SP 2 on a Windows 2008 Server which was used for email and IBM Lotus Domino servers.  For some reason, BW2018 seems to be interfering with the SMTP service.  Our email server stopped working.  I uninstalled BW2018 and the email server (MailEnable) started working again!  Has anyone come across this issue before?  Any idea why BW/Pervasive would interfere with an SMTP service?  Thank you.

    Bob Bakva-

Unfortunately, I don't anything in our Knowledge Base relating to conflicts with BusinessWorks and the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP).  Sometimes when a program stops working it needs to be reinstalled.

I did see something on the internet that STMP is part of the application layer of TCP/ICP protocol.  BusinessWorks also uses a TCP/IP protocol.  I would also suggest looking at our system requirements for BusinessWorks on our Knowledge Base at support.na.sage.com  (#45396 "System Requirement: Sage BusinessWorks Account" .  System Requirements shows information regarding what BusinessWorks Requires for TCP/IP

TCP/IP communication protocol installed and optimally configured on all standalone computers, servers, and workstations. An optimally configured TCP/IP protocol includes:

    • An operational name service provider (such as Broadcast by NetBios, WINS, or DNS) must be present and functioning. The program requires name resolution. (You must be able to ping the server by name and get the correct IP address.)
    • On the server, TCP/IP ports 3351 and 1583 must be unobstructed and available for use with Btrieve and Pervasive.SQL v10 ODBC respectively.
    • IP v6 is not supported

Otherwise, if another program stopped working when BusinessWorks was installed, then I would have you contact the other software to see if they can tell what is not working on their software.

I hope that may give you some direction on the issue you are experiencing.

    Thanks,

    Coleen

    Coleen,

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.  I appreciate your suggestions.  I know BusinessWorks 2018 was working properly after the installation.  Maybe the SMTP service was somehow shut down.

In any event, I'll retrace our steps.  We have been using BusinessWorks since 1986 -- the DOS days.  I know it pretty well and it is simple to work with. Again, thank you.

You are welcome.  My only thought is it could be with TCP/IP ports 3351 and 1583 - these have to be open and listening for BusinessWorks.
