W-2 Error for SIMPLE IRA and AFLAC for Virginia and West Virginia State Wages

Question

I am using BusinessWorks 2017 SP2. I tried to print my 2017 W-2s and when I got to confirming the state wages the program gave me the following error. 
 The error appears to be the reduction in taxable state wages caused by a SIMPLE IRA deduction or a Section 125 deduction. I have employees that live in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The deductions for the Maryland employees did not create a problem but the deductions for the VA and WV employees is giving me the error above. 
 The program will not allow me to finish the W-2s. If you have any suggestions about what I may be doing wrong or a way to bypass this error it is greatly appreciated.

That is a reported issue that the engineers are reviewing. The current work around is to manually edit the values to take our the negative #s. See KB article #81126 Error: " Negative values are not allowed" when editing Box 16 wages in Enhanced Tax Reporting . Here is a copy of the article I used. It worked for me. I had to manually adjust 18 of 146 employees. It was a little time consuming but not hateful. Hope this helps.

 Error: "State Wages contain negative values, click on the errors (red cells) and correct the errors to proceed." 
 
 Cause 
 One or more check detail contains a negative dollar amount from deduction that is not taxable for SWr. 
 Resolution 
 Negative values are not allowed in the Edit State Detail records. This issue has been forwarded to Engineering for research 
 and fix in a future release. 
 Workaround: 
 To correct a negative value error: 
 
 1. Right click on the box 16 value that has the negative amount 
 2. Select Cut (this will remove all values in box 16) 
 Then left click on box 16 and the Edit State Detail records grid will display 
 Select the first blank box under XX Wages (where XX is the state abbreviation) 
 Right Click 
 6. Select Paste (this will enter the value cut in step 2) 
 
 If the right click menu options do not display you can hit ctrl+x on your keyboard to cut and then ctrl+v to paste.

Doing the manual changes is a pain in the butt compared to every other year but it is not as time consuming as it may seem from the article. I was able to make the manual changes in about 1 minute per employee. Fortunately the error only occurred for 18 employees out of the 146 W2s. BusinessWorks needs to fix this glitch ASAP but if you are running out of time the manual change is doable. Good Luck!

The article above appears similar to the steps you need to perform, although that is not the correct ID #. The correct # is 81126. For suggestions on finding the article, you can use the search words "negative values" or enter the Knowledge Base article #, "81126". There has been updates to the steps above due to some people not having the option to cut when right clicking. So see steps below: 
 To correct a negative value error: 
 
 Right click on the box 16 value that has the negative amount 
 Select Cut or Ctrl+X (this will remove all values in box 16) 
 Then left click on box 16 and the Edit State Detail records grid will display

John - Our engineers are working on this and I am told there will be a Hot Fix for it that should be coming out in the new few days or so. But at this time, the only work around is to manually update the numbers in Box 16.
