So many crashes on so many computers

I dont even know where to start... We have Sage BusinessVision running on pretty much everyones machine in our office and pretty much anyone who's doing order entry has different crashes and errors. It's the most frustrating program I've ever used and there never seems to be a solution.

One error that seems to pop up more frequently these days is this. I've searched high and low for a solution and nothing so far has work...

Execution Error : file 'C:\BusinessVision\BCPrintUtils.lbr\BCCREMGR.int'
error code 114, pc-14CB, call=1, seg=0
114 Attempt to access item beyond bounds of memory (Signal 11)

Another common error is

Exception 24 no trapperd;
the class nilobject (object reference: 0000003)
Does not understand: getvaluez

And finally one girl sees these almost daily.

Exception 24 not trapped;
an instance of the class bctabctrl (object reference: 00012151)
Does not understand: isbvappane

If anyone has any useful suggestions for any of these, I'm all ears.

    Hi Eric,

What version of BusinessVision are you running? 2014? and Standard, CSE.

Have you tried setting the DEP (Data Execution Prevention)?

Since I'm not aware of your level of computer experience I'm not sure if this is going to make any sense.

Please verify the following to better help you.

    1. Version of BusinessVision 2014, 2013, etc

    2. Are your running Standard, CSE, SBE, and number of users

    3. Is your network with a domain or no domain and what server operating system are you running

    4. What operating system are you running on the desktops

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I should have posted this with the original post.

We are running Sage BusinessVision Accounting - CSE Versions 2013 - 7.63

Yes I've done the DEP thing on all the machines here already. Found that in a previous thread while Googling some of these errors.

I think we have licenses for 20 users, but I know we have less people actually using it then that.

Questions 3 I'm not certain of, but I think our main Data file is on a local server, so I'm guessing we're not on a domain.

All machines are running Windows 7 Pro.

    Please check the following:

What is the Operating System Font Display at? 120% , 100%?

      (Control Panel - > Display)

I'm sure you have done this googling, but just to make sure.

     Gateway Settings for the Pervasive?

I'm sure you probably have done this too, that the users have access to the mapped drive where BV Data is being hosted for read and write permissions.

Which Protection Software are you running? Symantec EndPoint, McAffee, Norton, etc etc.

I have had to adjust the displays of some people and that actually eliminated an error one lady was getting, otherwise everyone is set to 100% for their display.

Could you explain the gateway settings thing for me?

Everyone has full permissions to the drive where the Data file is hosted.

Antivirus we're running Symantic Endpoint, however I think a few people also have MS Security Essentials as well.

Sounds like you are running BV in a situation that has inherent instability of some sort. There are a LOT of factors that could be contributing to this. BV, like ALL software, runs in an environment, and is dependent upon that environment to provide services that enable it to run. These services include database services (Pervasive) and network connectivity. Other software running on the network can also majorly impact BV. It's very easy to point the finger at BV for the crashing, but there is a 99.9% probability that the actual cause is something else on your network.

You need a competent and experienced BV professional and probably also a competent and experienced IT professional to come in and have a look at your entire system. My use of the words "competent" and "experienced" is deliberate. I once found in 20 minutes the cause of a major network slowdown that 3 previous IT people had spent hours trying to find without success. Not that I'm so great, just that one needs experience to find the issues.

Please see wildwoodcanada.com/.../system_requirements.html and other pages referred to there for more info.

I agree with Walter. I have several BV companies with 20 plus machines and the entrie BV system has been working very well for many years. The devil is in the details. Pervasive is an old clunky database manager and you need experience to set it up correctly. I have come across your situation many times over the years. It can be resolved.

  • Hi i am getting these erros messages as well. what did you do to fix it. we have windows 10 and i have the data on my standalone computer. Office 365.

have hitman Pro. upgraded to BV small edition 2023 so this doesn't have pervasive...

    thanks
