Windows 10 local administrator accounts & Sage 50 2018.0

1 minute read time.

Here's how to quickly find out if the account you're using is an Administrator or not:

Sage 50 version 2018.0 prevents the install of Sage 50 while logged into Windows with a Standard user account. This account type blocks major changes to a system such as "installing software; add, remove or change user accounts" - cnet.com.

Please excuse the FR only image below, the EN version would be similar saying "See Windows' online help for instructions on starting a program as an administrator."

Before you install Sage 50 2018

Check to see whether you're using an Administrator account type. To do this:

Step 1: Click on the Start button, the Start Menu will pop up.

Step 2: Right-click the name (or icon, depending on the version Windows 10) of the current account, located at the top left part of the Start Menu, then click on Change account settings.

Step 3: The Settings window will pop up and under the name of the account if you see the word "Administrator" then it is an Administrator account.

Shown as below on Windows 7.

Retrieving a Windows Admin Account

If you find that you are stuck and no longer know the Windows Administrator login or password. Consult with an IT technician, who is equipped with the knowledge of how to enable the administrator account and or may have the password for you. Perhaps they set your system up?

Resetting a Windows Admin Account

To reset a Windows Administrator account, you may have to reinstall the Windows operating system completely. This means, lots of work which involves the reinstall of all applications and the restore of all documents… not fun.
