Error 1904.Module when installing Version 7.4 Client

I'm about to give up on this, but thought I'd post it here hoping someone has an answer or a fix.  Resolution 481451 did not work.

We've moved the 7.05 database to SQL 2005 and upgraded 7.05 to 7.4 on a test server (with some difficulty).  I'm installing the 7.4 client on my computer locally.  No matter what I try I can't get past this error

Error 1904 ("C:\windows\system32\Threed32.ocx") failed to register.  HRESULT - 2147220473

Any idea if there is something causing this that I can look at?  Thank You in advance.

  • That is one of the old VB6 objects.  I would see if it's in that directory (c:\...).  If not then that's problem A.  If it is then I would manually register it, use the old dos command prompt and type in <regsvr32 threed32.ocx> from the system32 directory.  If that doesn't work I would logon to your machine as NETWORK ADMIN (yes I am shouting).  Try it again.  If it still doesn't work disable all antivirus software, try again.

If it still doesn't work it may be that your registry is corrupt.  Then I'd try it on another machine.

    Good luck.

  • Also what OS are you installing to?  If WIndows VIsta or Windows 7 make sure you right click on the set up exe and select Install as Administrator to get full privelages even if you are logged in as adminstrator.  Not sure Microsoft added this extra level of pain, but I have seen issues like this resolved when you do this..

  • It is definitely my computer.   It does install on other computers.  I am on XP SP3 and did try installing as a Network Administrator from the suggestion above.

Thanks to all for your help.  I guess I'll run a cleaner on my registry and hope that fixes it for me, or put it on a remote desktop somewhere.

  • I would format the drive and resinstall the OS.  I have seen this work more than once.

  • Before reformatting the drive.  See if the object exists anywhere on your system.  If so that would be a reason that the error occurs as you can't register the same object twice that has the same clsid.  If you do find an existing copy of this object, un register it using RegSvr32 and delete the file.  Then try to re-install the client again..

  • Formating would fix that Lou.  :smileyhappy:
