Very large GL batches - posting performance

SUGGESTED

Does anyone know any smart ways to potentially improve GL batch posting performance?  We are looking at typical batches of 1500 to 2000 entries with 8 details per entry.  They take 7 minutes to post on a fairly high end server.

I'm wondering if there are is any tuning anyone knows about that helps specifically with Sage 300 posting.  Also if anyone has experienced whether more smaller batches post quicker overall, or fewer but bigger batches.

They are looking at 20 days to post December batches so any percentage reduction would make a big difference.

Thanks all.

Are you posting to the prior year?  If so then you're going to get two rounds of posting while Sage creates closing entries. Obviously for 10 months of the year you're not likely posting to prior years but you mentioned December, above.

As for benchmarking you could create a macro to generate batches in sample company of any size.

In SQL index fragmentation could affect your posting.  More indexes means more time to post.  Rebuilding indexes should help with posting speed a little because the database, overall, will be slightly more efficient.

That's a really good point.  I think their year end was December.  About 20% of transactions hit income statement accounts so could have quite an impact.
