Failed to load crystal print engine CRPE32.DLL for Windows 7

Receiving an error when converting reports on MAS Custom Reports menus after install of V4.40.0.4  And, also while printing Work Order Traveler from the WO Main menu.

Crystal Error: Failed to load the Crystal Print Engine (crpe32.dll) (err/re=22/0) occurred on line 140 in program SWCOCX.

I found a fix for XP & older & it worked:

Resolution ID 525572

Copy the CRPE32.DLL file from C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Common\3.5\Bin into the C:\Windows\System32

However, it doesnt fix it for Windows 7 or Terminal Server 2008.

  • Did you rerun the WKsetup? What version (32 or 64) of Windows is it?  Be sure to run the set up as Administrator.

For windows 7 (or any 64 bit environment) try copying the file to the c:\windows\sysWOW64 .  Did you need to mannually register the file also?

  • I just ran into the same problem on Windows 7, running MAS90 version 4.5.  The suggestion to copy crpe32.dll to C:\Windows\SysWOW64 worked.  I did not need to manually register it.  Actually, I tried but regsvr32 crpe32.dll gave an error message about no entry points being present.  It still fixed the problem, though.

What I wonder is if this is just a step that got left out of the MAS90 installation, or if there is something in my system that is wiping out crpe32.dll.  It seems weird that the same problem is persisting a year after this original thread.

  • I just migrated from 4.3 to 4.5 and had the same problem on my Windows 7 64 bit machines, but only when printing Payroll Checks.  I moved crpe32.dll to the ssyWOW64 folder and it worked.

Install must be missing this step   OR you need to right click and install as administrator.  I am the admin on my workstation, but didn't right-click and install as admin.
