A/P check printing alignment problem

Posted By Anonymous

I could use some help with an alignment problem with a new printer using A/P check printing in MAS90 ver 4.0.  The first check prints correctly, but the program unexpectedly adds a space, dropping the starting print line on each subsequent check by one line, before printing each successive check.   So the second check is off by one line, the third check off by two lines, and so forth.  How can I correct the settings to eliminate this problem?  Thanks for any suggestions.

  • You need to go into the form layout and adjust the page length I believe. If I am correct, it defaults to 66 lines. Try changing it to 65 lines. (or basically 1 less than it is currently at).

Also, do not print from preview. You may want to convert your AP checks to a graphical format also.

  • If you are using non-graphical forms, I would HIGHLY recommend using Crystal forms as this eliminates a lot of issues.

  • I've also found that selecting the form feed to "on" has been helpful.

Thanks to all for your suggestions.  I tried all of them in due course.

My client did not explain the problem to me correctly.  For each check, a line was being deleted, not added, so the print was starting higher and higher as the checks would print.  Still, the same type of problem, just a little different manifestation.

The new printer is a laser type (prior printer used ink jet technology), so I checked the box to print graphical checks in the A/P Set-up Options screen as someone suggested and that did in fact solve the spacing problem.   However, the checks are printing out funny.  For one thing, the check stock is pre-printed, so there are duplications appearing on the check stubs and the alignment is also off kilter.  Crystal Reports is not installed, so I will install it to see if I can 1.) turn off the duplicated items printing somehow and 2.) look over how alignment is changed.

    Marshall,

Make sure the temporary crystal workfiles have not retained data, they should be emptied out after you are done printing or previewing (ungraceful exits and other things cause this to happen).  Check out our KB How to reinitialize Crystal temporary work files for A/P check printing (Login Required).

Make sure you seleceted the Pre-Printed form code after you enabled graphical forms.  You may want to create a new form code just to be sure you are using the original template.

Don't be afraid to call you Sage Channel Partner for help with custom crystal reports, they have been down this road before.

Given the fact that crystal workfiles can retain data and need to be purged, I'd have preferred to stay with non-graphical printing had I been able to correct the problem with the line spacing.  That being said, regarding rclowe's suggestion to check out, "How to reinitiate Crystal temporary work files for A/P checking printing,"  I am unable to access that link, receiving an error message when I attempt to do so.  Please let me know how I can locate this information directly as I do not even know what "KB" is, as I'm somewhat clueless.  Determined as I am to give it a shot, I would like to see if I can handle this before contacting a channel partner.  On order of asking for driving directions when I won't admit to my spouse that I'm lost.

  • KB = Knowledge Base

You need to reinitialize the following files:

    AP_20 and AP_21

Make sure you do not select other files since you are deleting every record in the files you select.

  • Do you have access to the sage knowledgebase?  They have some helpful information about forms creeping.  It can be fixed but graphical is really the best.   Otherwise somewhere down the road it will stop working again because someone changed the printer or something like that and you will have to re fix it.  Graphical doesn't care about the printer as much.

Also when you upgrade to 4.20 or higher you will not have to option for non graphical checks.

Also to avoid the left over info in the crystal work files, do no press cancel after you have started printing. Although not the only cause, interrupting the process can cause the duplicates.
