ODBC connection (read) from Excel to MAS 90 data tables

Recently went to a class on excel pivot tables.  Powerful stuff.

One of the examples in the class was to read data from MAS 90 into the excel spread sheet and then use the pivot tables.  I think this was done with a pre 4.3 MAS 90.

When I tried this from Excel 2007 and MAS 90 4.3, the connection to the odbc driver yielded an error that it could not read a list of tables from the driver.  I can do it from Access and successfully pull in data no problem.  Of course, one of my clients was in the same class and tried it as well with the same results and started asking me about it.

Anyone seen this and have a clue as to what might be wrong?

  • I use this all the time. How are you defining the connection?  I create a query on one sheet using "From Other Data Sources" and "From MS Query" that I use for looking at the detail (a drill down if you will) and then use that connection definition as the basis for the pivot table.

MAS 4.30 and Excel 2007 are not problem and 2007 expands the options for Pivot Tables.

  • Using other data sorces and selecting the SOTAMAS90 odbc driver.

  • If you are selecting SOTAMAS90 odbc driver after having selected "From MS Query" then you are doing exactly as I am.

Not seeing tables is usually a problem in the ODBC setup, but the fact that you can read tables from Access using the same SOTAMAS90 makes this a real puzzle.
