Rebulding failed server - which version to install?

Question

Hi, 
 I've had to rebuild a 2008R2 server following a raid drive failure. This was acting as the company's Sage 50 server. All data is safe and sould on a second raid volume and backed up. 
 Currently, users are on V28.1. My question is, on the server, should I install V28.1 or V30? 
 If I install V30, will it upgrade files so that V28.1 no longer works? 
 Would it be best to upgrade all users to V30 anyway?

I would probably install v29 rather than v30. 
 The reason is that from v30.1 we plan to block installations on unsupported operating systems for security reasons. 
 If you install v29 and convert the data everyone on the network will need to upgrade their machine too.
