Simply Accounting 2011 Link?

SUGGESTED
Posted By FormerMember

I have all my account info, but I think I got download link instead of CD and now that PC crashed and I need files off it.

Is there anywhere I can find an install link? I don't have the original email saved anymore.

    Hello ,

Thank you for contacting us. It’s important to note that our obsolescence policy (link below) has our teams only working and assisting with the 2018 version that is tested and has updated resources. Security of data is extremely important, for this reason we recommend being current with all software and systems. Our Support team does require a warranty call or support plan for advanced assistance where we remote to your machine etc.

As a consequence of the obsolescence policy, we only keep downloads for the current version plus 1 year back typically. So the 2011 link you mentioned has been retired…

    Your options are:

    1. If you have another computer with the install on it, check the C:\Sage Install folder with the files to copy over to the other machine.
    2. Our Sage Accountant’s Network members may also have an old Sage 50 2011 CD copy. Use our Partner Locator / Sage Match: https://app.sagematch.com/
    3. Consider upgrading to Sage 50 CA  version 2018. Try or evaluate Sage 50—CA Edition before purchasing

If the hard drive is readable, your installation files are in c:\Sage, and any downloaded updates should also be on the hard drive.

    Probably C:\Users\Public\Documents\Sage Software\Simply Accounting\Download

Whether everything can be recovered depends on the condition of the hard drive - from 'crashed' meaning something was misconfigured, or malware gibbled some part of the Operating System, to failure of some component outside of the hard disk, to literally run over / smashed.

(By 'hard drive' I mean the internal component that stores the data, not the entire system excluding the monitor.)

Sage doesn't generally make old software available.  If you didn't make a backup of the installation and you can't get it off the old hard disk, contact a Sage 50 partner to see if they can do it for you.

Given that the old PC is absolutely unrepairable, You can go in one of two directions:

    - 'raise the Titanic' by getting the old installation software, serial number, and unlock codes to install on a new PC.  You will need the EXACT version and the updates off the old PC.

     - Install a new release of Sage 50 plus the 2014? release that has the old database engine, then try to convert your backups.  Skipping 7 years of updates has become a bit of a process.

I realize this is an older thread and I hope someone that can help sees this.

I have a customer who's drive had a catastrophic crash, i was able to recover the directory with all the data files, but her Simply 2011 Accountants edition was trashed beyond recovering and I could not find any of the installer files on the drive.  My customer was also unable to find her install media.

I tried the trial version of 2015 on her data files and was able to update her 2012 and 2013 data sets but it was unable to update any of the sets from 2014 to current and i've tried multiple copy of each. so i'm wondering if there is a bug of some sort in the 2015 trial. The program just pops up a message saying unable to update company.

So I'm requesting if anyone would have the installer for the 2011 version please.

    Thanks

    Tom.

Wow what a rip off...No wonder sage does not make archived copies available anymore. They turned it into another revenue stream.. AND CHARGING TAX ON IT!  I bet dollars to donuts you are owned or affiliated with sage.. Its reasons like this that I have done my best to get people away from using any piece of sage software. Even as far back as the 90's this company has had questionable practices. This is why the "helpful" gent wanted contact OFF the forums..

Congrats you make my job easier to get one more customer away from this company.

    Heres the reply.

    "Hi Tom:

Sage only keeps the current year and the previous years install files on their servers. We have the Simply/Sage 50 Canadian install files. We provide this service for a fee of $125.00 plus taxes. During this crisis we have reduced our pricing to $75.00 plus taxes. You must have your client ID#, and serial number to use the software. In some cases if you do not have that information we may be able to obtain the codes. Please let us know which version you are using E.G. 2018.2, etc.."

Theres more to the email but its not relevant to my point.

By the way. nowhere in the world will you find a software company who has not kept archives of every piece of software they ever made.

Good bye sage, regret knowing anything to do with your pathetic practices.

    Tom:

I am truly sorry you feel we are ripping you off. For your information, we are not owned by Sage. We are a locally owned independent small business operating for more than 34 years in Ontario. We provide consulting, training, sales, service, and support to clients who require our services across Canada. We also do bookkeeping, accounting and personal and corporate tax preparation and filing. We pay for our Sage products every year to keep updated and to take advantage of new technology. In order to take on credentials of Certified Consultant and Certified Trainer, courses must be taken every year and you must write and pay the examination fee. We have have been doing this since 2009 when the certification program began.

Yes, we learned clients needed access to Sage installation files because they did not make a copy of their software. In addition, Sage changed their policies to only keep the current year and the previous year's copies available. So, yes, we added a revenue stream to our business but we make very little because we have to pay to send these files out to clients' in need and we do not get paid for our time corresponding to requests or tied up computer time to send these large install files. Basically, we do this to provide a service to those who do not want to upgrade to a newer version of Simply/Sage and are quite satisfied with the product they are using. By the way. we answer questions on Sage City on our time, for no pay at all. We do it as a service to those who need assistance.

As far as taxes go, if you are a Canadian registered business and have sales or income from your business of $30K or more for products and services you must charge GST. In Ontario we must charge HST.

Yes, Sage/Simply/Best Software has changed over the years and they charge a significant amount of money for their products. The trouble is they are in business to make money as we all do in business. We cannot survive without having an income of some sort. Sage has not communicated well with some of their clients and have hidden changes in their software agreements/licenses. It would be better if they just sent a quick note to their clients about any significant changes to their license agreements. Every day people do not want to read these tediously long worded license agreements.

We enjoy using our Sage 50 Accounting and Sage Business Cloud Accounting products. They do not do everything we would like them to do but for us they are satisfactory.

To conclude, Sage can do better! For assistance contact Agate!
