December—the short month with 31 days (five things to do now for year-end)

December may have 31 days, but it’s also a short month. Between planning for holidays, taking vacation, and making New Year’s resolutions, it can be hard enough finding time to get your “day job” done, let alone year-end activities!  But a little prep can be the key to a successful (and hopefully less stressful) year-end. Here are five things you can do now to get ready:

  1. Backup your data.
If you are not using a cloud version of Sage software, then having a recent backup is important for many reasons—theft, natural disasters, and hard drive failures, to name a few. Like changing the batteries in your smoke detectors, add backing up your data to your year-end prep checklist.
  2. Update your software.
Tax updates, for example, are often designed to work with the latest release. If you're not using a cloud version of Sage software, you can save time and take advantage of the most recent updates and improvements by downloading the current version now.
  3. Get familiar with the year-end information you’ll need to pull.
Tax forms, payroll statements, and financial documents—get a head start by finding out what reports you’ll need and how to run them.
  4. Keep your Sage Knowledgebase login information handy.
The Sage Knowledgebase gives you 24/7 access to support articles, product documentation, and the latest software downloads, so make sure you can log on! If you’ve created an account in both Sage City and the Sage Knowledgebase, your login information should be the same for both.
  5. Bookmark the Sage Year-end Center for updates.
