Downloading/exporting General Ledger Detail Reports - so slow

It takes longer than I consider normal to run the GLDR, print to PDF, and export to .xls. Does everyone have a slow export? I miss my last job's accounting software that had instant GL downloads (smart lists in Great Plains). Is there a way to speed it up? Is this a server/cloud thing? I'm not tech-savvy, and I'm new the company, I'm not sure how we have Sage configured. Thank you for reading.

With BOI scripting and a Excel VBA macro one can use the nSelectReportSetting and nProcessReport methods on the 'GL_DetailReport_rpt' object to load the desired fields of the 'GL_DetailReportWrk' table directly into an Excel worksheet table. It's much faster than querying the original tables. Then filter to your heart's desire. Especially helpful is the Excel SubTotal function that can sum/count fields and ignore rows hidden with table filters.
