Access violation tsystemexceptionc

This question has been asked before, but all questions seem to be from several years back and many don't have resolutions, so I thought I'd post it new.  I have a user running Timeslips version 23.0.2.187, and she frequently experiences this error when opening the program.  It doesn't happen all the time, and often she just needs to close the program and open it back up, but she's getting frustrated with it.  The error specifics are:

Area: System Error

Code: 2

Class: tSystemExceptionC (EAccessViolation)

Does anyone have a good method for getting rid of this error for good without risking any of her data?

Thank you.

First step is always clear temp files. Beyond that is there a specific function she is doing when the error happens?

Thanks Caren, are you referring to Windows temp files, or something specific to Timeslips? If it's Windows, then we tried clearing those out to no avail, but if there are specific Timeslips files to clean can you tell me where they are?

So far the error seems to occur randomly - sometimes she will open the program with no problems, other times the error will occur and she will need to close it and re-open. I've tried virus scan and hardware diagnostics to rule those out. I have not run the database verification utility yet because I'm not familiar with the software and haven't wanted to run the risk of damaging her data.

Both. Depends in part on where Timeslips on the workstation has been "told" to store temp files. Search for fulses* and whatever folder those are in you should clear that folder as well as anything in %temp%

Also, running database verification with only look for errors checked should not cause problems. I do recommend making a backup and running it on the server or on the database brought local as otherwise the network can cause "false" readings.

Thanks again, Caren. I'll check for those temp file locations and see what's hanging around. As far as the verification goes, this is a single-computer installation, so the db is already local. I'll give that a shot after making sure everything is backed up.

I checked the temp files tonight - a full search of the C: drive found no files at all starting with "fulses" (I did make sure hidden files/folders were visible before searching); I also checked the program settings but couldn't find any setting for temp file location - is there another way to locate it? I did delete everything in the user profile temp folder, though.

Sound like you have done everything. Code 2 errors can be hard to troubleshoot

If you deleted all of the temporary files, and still get the error doing a specific function, we need to know what that function is.

Usually an Address Violation is an indication of damaged temporary files, but it can be a generic response to a critical data error. Running Data Verification will direct us in a specific direction. Contact one of the Certified Consultants (Caren Schartz being the one responding in this thread) here or Timeslips Support at 800-555-2452 for assistance, if needed.
