Client Controller in Generating bill

SOLVED

I have a client that when they generated bills they would choose the filter group called client and then choose Client Controller. When they clicked that option it would let them choose which attorney that they wanted to generate bills (unbilled time and expense) and they would be on their merry way to proof stage.  I believe this was setup by a past consultant. The client moved locations and then an attorney restored the file and this report does not run anymore.

Anyone have a report like that they could share with me?

It's not so much a report as it is a FILTER for a report. I.e., run this report, but ONLY run it for THESE clients.

You say it "does not run anymore." Can you give us a few more clues about what you mean by that?

Do you see the option for Client Controller? Or is it just not present?

Do you get an error when you run it? If so what is the error?

Nancy - it is a filter. You can still go to Bills/Generate Bills and it will bring you to the report entry screen. On filter group you would can choose from "most popular". The client from drop down of the most popular and choose client. When looking through the groups, the client would select "client controller". (that client controller group is still there) Once selected there would be screen that would pop up -labeled filter for- and it says at the top "You can select individual records by marking them in a list or by a range of nicknames. You can us a combination of both methods. (and it goes on)...But there are no names at all in this filter to choose from to even filter. The client said she use to choose an attorney from this filter and then would get all of the unbilled time and expense just for that attorney. If I cannot get this to work, any suggestions for the generating bills on filter configuration that I can use for this client? Thanks for your help.

Hmm, that is an odd one. So the custom field is there to choose as a filter, but there are no choices in the pick list?

I'd 1) make a backup, then 2) click on File; Data Verification; and check off ONLY a) look for errors and b) rebuild data indices. Run that (it may take a few minutes) and then see if the pick list is populated again.

What version? Are you on latest service release? I seem to recall this as an issue.

Training issue with the main topic being DON'T let attorneys restore backups!!!

LOL. Yeah, that was a bit of a red flag. Had me wondering. Glad you got it fixed.

Nancy, I have not got this taken care of as I have been at other clients today, hopefully in the next couple of days. Also, the company is on the latest release because the company moved physical locations and then decided to put TS2016 on a USB external hard drive instead of leaving it on the server. The company was then wondering why TS2016 did not work plus only one person could log in at a time. I then had to update their server to be able to reinstall TS2016 and then restore from backup - which of course was done by one of the attorneys. Of course being a Certified TS2016 Consultant they called me because TS support could/would not help them. My company normally sets up the network for our clients (We also do IT Outsourcing) so when I walked into this mess...it has been an adventure. I have asked for maybe the old server so I could pull the old original database before they backed it up but they think they put it in a storage unit and I have not seen it. I will let you know what I come up with after your suggestions. Thanks Nancy.

Dana, if the atty left the check box "on" in that restore dialog there is likely a BKU file called "original" somewhere. DO NOT overwrite that BKU file. Create a new database and restore that BKU there and now take a look.

OIC. Appeared from Alan's post that it was resolved.

Ooh, yes, that is a mess. Hard to tell what is going on, but that custom field would usually link to a Timekeeper custom field. Since they have not complained about no Timekeepers in the database (wouldn't be able to make slips), my gut says that a reindex/relink with get the table pulling into the custom field again. But.....

Can they see the list contents when they are in Client Information and assigning a Client Controller? Is the pick list populated there?

If the latest Service Release is not installed, you cannot choose the filter you need.  Install the latest update to resolve the problem.

And the "only one person at a time issue" sounds very much like the 'Another Station is accessing the database in a way...' error addressed in KB 13624.  If Windows User Account Control is set to the default on a machine, it will force the Installation Folder to go to a UNC naming, and cause the issue you describe.
