Timeslips 2004

Hi - I am new to this board and hope that someone out there can help me.  I have been working with Timeslips for 15+ years.  Love it!

My boss switched to a Mac a few years ago which Timeslips does not support.  We are now switching back and want to use Timeslips again.

Money being tight at my company, I need to reinstall my 2004 program.  I have the disk, serial number, and registration number.  However, I do not have the configuration code.

I have the old computer that it was installed on . . . Can someone please help me out - I am totally stuck!

Thanks, Sue

Is it still installed on the old computer?

Do you have any copies of the old install folder?  Like on a backup or anything?

  • If it is still installed on the old computer you can open it there and go to help - about Timeslips 2004. If you scroll down in the large white box you will see the installation code, reinstallation code and serial number. With this information you can easily install on the new computer.  Assuming your computer is running Windows XP this should be okay. If you are running Vista or Windows 7, you really need to upgrade to a new version. Make sure you go online and download the updates after installing.

You can contact one of the consultants on this forum, or a consultant in your area for pricing on an upgrade, it's not that expensive and worthwhile if you possibly can.

If you are going to install the upgarde then just copy the timeslip.cfg file from the old computer to the folder on the new computer where you wnat to install the upgrade. You then run the install of the new version you will be able to install the upgrade.

I am an independent contractor and have a new lawyer client who has been using Timeslips forever.  I believe her version is 2004 or around then.  Her previous bookkeeper didn't keep things cleaned up too well, and there are a bunch of clients that need to have write-offs applied and be closed out.  I attempted to do this with the first one on the list and this is what I ran into:  although their record shows xxx as balance due, when I tried to apply xxx as a write-off, the bottom of the payment screened is grayed out and I can't apply it.

I guess I have two questions - is there any way you can help me from afar?  And, would upgrading help this sort of problem.  Also, in your network, do you have the name of a consultant in Tucson I could talk with?

    thanks so much.

    Jennifer:

Yes, many of the consultants offer over the web support where we can share access to your computer and talk with you over the phone to work on the problem.

I am unaware of anyone in Tucson, although I believe Phoenix has three Timeslips consultants.  You can see the list here:

  • Just one further comment. While the program and database should be updated to a more current version, I doubt that will fix the problem. There could be several different issues here ranging from data damage to unapplied payments.

When you run an Aged AR does it show a balance due?

My problem is with a progressive billing.  I'm trying to do a final billing, all the slips appear on the billing (5 pages long) along with the payments, but when I try to finalize it, it gives me this message "No data was selected.  Either there is no data available or the Selection filters exclude all records".  I have nothing in the filters to exclude anything.  It shows up in the account receivable list (the amount of the final payment) and it shows up in the WIP list for the full amount of slips.

    Can anyone help me?

    Thank you.

Can you make a backup, then select File, Data Verification and have it Check for Errors only?

    Report back any results.

  • Under generate bills, cick on the options and check include clients who are paid in full. On the selection screen clear everything. Then add a filter for just the one client. If this does not work, and data verification did not show any errors please --

Open billing assistant and let us know:

    1. Is the bill show in proof or revision stage

    2. What billing arrangement is showns?

    3. Does anything show on Hold?
