Users cannot print from TimeSlips company-wide

SOLVED

Hi All.

We have a problem that I thought was isolated just to printing reports with a couple users, however it looks like anyone trying to print, even slips, gets the same error. For users printing reports, we've been printint to PDF as a work-a-round, however no such luck for individual slips.

Since it appears network-wide, and I did recently make changes to network rights to shared drives after a virus, I believe it's probably related to security permissions as the error indicates. However, I've given EVERYONE full permission to both the drive that contains the TS Reports file as well as the subsequent TimeSlps folders.

Also, thinking maybe the TS Reports files may have gotten corrupted, I've replaced the entire "Report Templates folder  as well. At this point I'm not quite sure how to proceed. I noticed another user having similar problems here, but that thread hasn't gotten much traction.

Any suggestions?

Looks like your pre-defined report template is corrupted. Go to your server and in the timeslips\report templates folder rename the pre-defined.rpt file. Also do this on the workstations. Then open Timeslips and see if it recreates. Otherwise, do a clean install on a computer somewhere stand alone and copy over the file. If you let me know what version you are running I might be able to send you the file.

Thanks Caren for the prompt response and input. I'll give that a try. We're running TS 2014

I actually experienced this at a client yesterday and discovered that the config file was the wrong one. If you open Timeslips and click HELP ... ABOUT TIMESLIPS it will show where the installation folder is. Make sure that is the main Timeslips folder on your server. If it is not correct, each user must use Station Administrator to change the location for their computer. It sounds like the configuration file has been moved, or is not in the same folder as the folder for report templates.

Hi Ryan, as you and I have discussed before it seems as though the pre-defined.rpt file is corrupted. Hopefully Caren's version of that file resolves for you. Your users can always print detail a slip listing report to PDF just the way Kim and Cheryl might print accounting reports. Hope this helps.

    Allen:

While you are absolutely right that he could print the slip listing to PDF, you would need to set PDF as the default printer for the Slip Listing report for it to work right from the Slip List view. If you look at his screen capture above, they are using the button on the right hand button bar to invoke the report, which does not give you the chance to see the report details/choose a printer. It just executes the report all in one shot. So, if the default printer is not PDF, then they won't see the option/be able to choose PDF.

A lot of users think that that button is different from the other reports and it really isn't, but it does skip the report details view and just run.

    Hope this helps.

I replaced the "Pre-Defined.rpt" file that Caren graciously sent to me and it appears to be working as normal. Thanks again!

Well, unfortunately, it looks like users are still not able to specifically print sliplists. Do you think the .rpt file needs to be replaced locally as well as on the server?
