Timeslips 2010 Upgrade AND Server Migration

Hi - I am working on a new office Timeslips project. We need to upgrade our current TS 2010 to TS 2013, which the company paid for 2 years ago but never got around to implementing. The current version 2010 resides on a Windows SBS 2008 server and is accessed by 20 PCs. It is NOT a terminal server, just houses the database [MAIN.DB]. IN addition, we need to move this current database to a new Server 2012.

Summary:

First weekend, upgrade the current server TS version from TS 2010 to 2013 after all users finish their slips, log out. I have the software + service release 1 + all configuration/license info. Then upgrade all PCs w/ same version.

After all can log ok, 2nd weekend - migrate the folder + DB to new Win Server 2012 via a manual copy of the current TS folder to new server, then install + point the 2013 installer to it; then redo all PC re-maps.

Does this path sound right -

Thanks!

David

Sounds mostly right. Not sure about what you mean by "then install + point the 2013 installer to it."

    Hope this helps.

Hi Nancy - thanks for reading this! What I meant by the quoted words was that the installer may need to be pointed to the current directory. I should have typed, "then START the install + point the 2013 installer to it". But the installer probably auto-detects the folder, which will be a network folder share or mapped drive right off the server C:\ drive, after it is copied entirely from the current server.
So, you think this is a solid plan, and is how you would do it?

    Hey David:

Unfortunately, any deeper answer is going to involve a fee from me.

You sound all good with the first weekend assignment. ;-)

    Let's see how that goes.

    Hope this helps.

Hi again - I ended doing the migration to the new server within a few days. The business decided it was best to get it going. Overall, the upgrade from 2010 to 2013 [on the server and on the PCs] and the TS move to a new server went well for the most part. I had some tricky PC issues where I had to clear all logins out via station admin. I also had to reinstall on a few PCs once or twice but got there eventually. Thanks for the help!
