Can I Insert Custom Calculated Field in Bill?

For several years I have wanted the ability to insert a field in bills that contains both a message and a formula that multiplies the amount due by a constant.  The purpose is to take the amount due in U.S. dollars and multiply it by a fixed exchange rate (a rate that never fluctuates against USD) so that I can express the billed amount in a second currency.  Several years ago, Nancy Duhon suggested the following:

Not really, but you might be able to have a customizable section on the bill that calculated the amount due at a conversion rate to give you the alternative currency.

That's as close as I can think of billing in two currencies.

 Hope this helps.

Folks for us, it's all about the Kudos.  If you think this suggestion was especially helpful, please consider clicking the KUDOS! (yellow) icon in this message.  Thanks.

However, I don't see any option to insert a section like this on the bill.  I can add a message, and I can manually calculate the conversion and insert the amount due in the message, but I have to do this separately and manually for each client on each bill.  It grows cumbersome and, more importantly, introduces lots of possibilities for error.

I'm using an older version of Timeslips (Timeslips 2012) but I would happily upgrade if I knew this feature was available on a later release.  Any ideas?

Newer versions of Timeslips do have calculated fields. Whether they would work "exactly" as you describe and to your satisfaction is difficult to answer here.

If it is that important to you, I would advise contacting a Certified Consultant and having them work with you remotely on a copy of the newest version and show you what it can do and see if that would work for you. I.e., try before you buy to make sure the feature will meet your needs.

    Hope this helps.

I believe that calculated fields are available on reports but not on bills. Please go to go.na.sage.com/Value_Timeslips_Product_Suggestion and enter your product suggestion.

Is there any way of finding out for sure whether calculated fields are now available on bills? Calculated fields have been available on reports for quite some time but I would like to insert them on bills.

Unfortunately, they are not available. I would suggest you send in a product suggestion through help menu.

Thanks, Caren. I already put in a product suggestion through the feedback link. It is awfully frustrating to be unable to do something that an Excel spreadsheet can do with a simple formula . . . take the billed value and multiply by a constant.

While we may see this feature it will probably be in the Premium (Subscription) version.
Maybe you can create a report with the information and calculated fields and then attach it to the bill.

    AbuDhabiLaw:

The new v2018 Sage Timeslips (released this week) says they now have Calculated Fields on the Invoice! If you would like to arrange a remote desktop session to see if it would work for your situation, just contact me at the below and we can set it up.

If you are still using v2012, I would HIGHLY suggest you upgrade after making sure the feature would work for you. And I'll list the additional reasons why here:

    1) Sage is no longer supporting the old BDE/Paradox database that your version runs on.
    2) The new database engine is Firebird SQL which is true client server and for some functions much faster.
    3) This is the BIG ONE. They are moving to a subscription only pricing model, although as of this date (7/20/2017) you can still buy a classic Perpetual license through a Timeslips Certified Consultant.

So, yeah, and upgrade every 6 years or so right? ;-)
