If all you need is to sort/subtotal by reference you should be able to do this on pre-bills and bills by visiting the sorting tab after applying filters like client or date first.  

Unfortunately,I am unable to sort by all references in one report . However, I can sort for each reference, ie, one reference by one reference at a time, but i prefer to sort for all references in one report.  Any thoughts?

Not usual. I would try going to setup - preferences - interface - restore all windows to default size and then try again.

Beyond that would need to know what version and service release and which report or do a remote session.

thanks, I prefer not to restore all windows to default size. I will just use tasks in lieu of references and live with it

Not sure why you are reluctant to do that within Timeslips. It is a simple and harmless procedure. You might have a stuck filter or something. I strongly recommend doing it.

I customized my windows ie Timeslips today,Time and Expense, Prepare billings, and many others, and I am afraid that I will loose that customization.. Is that a valid concern?  

You won't lose any timeslips today customizations. you might lose settings in reports. You generally don't lose any substantive changes.

Not sure what you have going on with the "one reference by one reference at a time."

It sounds like you are filtering by reference instead of SORTING by reference.  The idea would be to include all of them in the report and then just sort the results by reference with a subtotal.
