Timeslips 2008 Directory/Paradox Issue

I'm an admin for a law office and we use Timeslips 2008 for our billing.  Only yesterday, when I went to edit a slip, I received the following error:

"Directory in use by earlier version of Paradox.(13314)

Area: Database

Code: 4

Address: Exception tBDEDatabaseExceptionC in module Timeslip.exe at 008F6254.

Version: 16.0.0.0231"

How do I resolve this?  I am not able to do anything with the program without this popping and cannot pull up bills, slips, etc., at all.  I have tried restarting the program and restarting the computer to no avail.  Additionally, when I try to exit Timeslips, it doesn't exit.  It just stays open, will NOT close the window, and I have to use the Task Manager to close it.

Unfortunately, I am not terribly computer-savvy, and am leery of altering things on a programming level.  If someone can help me out, they would have to tell me step-by-step what to do, what folders to go into (and where to find them), and what to delete and what NOT to delete.  I am on a Windows 8 computer.

Please help!!!

I did read those posts, and they may be helpful.  However, I am very new to Timeslips and very leery of trying something like deleting something which may be important without a step-by-step process, especially if there is anything specific to my version of Timeslips.

Also, what would cause this?  It was working fine the day before and I don't think I changed anything besides adding a few slips.  It was even working fine for most of the day before the issue occurred.

First you should upgrade. Timeslips 2008 is old and is not supported on windows 7 or windows 8.

Putting that aside l, if you are that uncomfortable then you should get a consultant to help you. It should be a fairly simple fix just finding and deleting the pdoxusrs files, but sometimes there are complications depending on the environment. Since we don't know your paths and setup we really can't give step by step

Have you ever had an experience where your car ran just fine yesterday and today it does not?

Perhaps you can resolve the problem and perhaps you need to go to a mechanic.  Windows, computers and software are no different.  I would recommend reaching out to get the professional help you need and then upgrade and keep your software current.
