Timeslips 2013 re-installation

One of our workstations crashed and all software needed to be re-installed.  During the installation Timeslips defaults to the network drive and It installs on the network drive ok.  When I try to open Timeslips from my local workstation, it says I need to install it on the local workstation; but it will not install on the locally.

The following error message appears:  “Exception EOSError in module TSSchBkpService.exe at 0000F20D. System Error. Code 5. Access is denied".

Operating system is Windows 7

Timeslips version 2013

Please advise.  Thank you.

Sounds like a rights issue. To install Timeslips on a workstation you browse to the network drive and open the loclinst folder. Then run setup.exe. You need to browse using the same path you use on other workstations or you will have a conflict.

I'm trying to understand what steps you took above.  You said " During the installation Timeslips defaults to the network drive and It installs on the network drive ok."  If this was only a workstation problem, why would you install it on the server again?  And how did you install it on the server, ie what steps?  Also, how did you install it on the workstation?  Finally, if it's only the backup service , you can disable that and see if Timeslips will run on its own.

The install defaulted the network drive.  I did not see this unitl the installation was in process.  It tried installing the workstation two ways 1) by pushing the software from the server to the workstation by clicking on the setup file located in the LolInst folder; and (2)  installing the software direclty to the C drive on the local station.  Both ways did not work.

You may have messed up your server install. I would suggest reinstalling on the server using the reinstall codes created when you previously upgraded and then install to the workstation.

@AM0101 - Is the issue that Timeslips will not run on the local workstation now, or that you are getting the error in Timeslips Scheduled Backup Service at this point.  If the latter, let's diagnose that before doing anything else.

What is the status of the User Account Control settings in Windows 7 on this workstation.  Click START, type 'UAC' in the search box and click the 'Change User Account Control Settings' option at the top of the window.  Change it to Never Notify and OK and let's restart this computer.

The error indicates that this machine does not want to give the SYSTEM user the authority to run the Windows process TSSchedBkpService.exe.  It may be a UAC issue, an administrative user rights issue, or a network policy issue.

It should NOT be disabling the functionality of Timeslips however.  You can even go into the services console in Windows and stop the above process from automatically starting.  The only drawback being that this machine won't be able to run an automatic 'scheduled backup' of Timeslips.  Manual backups can be run by the user, of course.

The issue is it will not install on the local workstation at all.

So are we installing as an administrator with UAC (described above) set at Never Notify?

And can you install from the download and point it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Timeslips\ and install that way.

It sounds very much like either an administrative rights issue, or a damaged user profile on the computer which will cause rights issues and other nastiness.
