Set Up Funds in Client Names vs. Funds - Can't Delete Funds Under Client Name

I set up a client's name, address, etc. and under the tab "Client Funds" put in their retainer amount. It doesn't seem to link with the Funds Account--if I go to "Transactions" "Funds Account" and "Client", nothing shows up. If I try to delete the retainer under the client's name in the Client Funds tab, a message comes up that you cannot delete the funds account "Retainer Account" [which is what I called it] because there are transactions associated with it...must first purge...dialog box...

Should I just never enter client's retainers under the client name? And why would they allow you to put this info in if you can't delete it?  Now that it's in there, I need to delete it, but Timeslips is not allowing me to do so. I'm working with a client who thinks I don't know what I'm doing b/c this is happening and I thought Client Funds and this way of entering a retainer were the same--apparently not!

If the transaction you describe is not billed you should be able to delete it.  I am guessing that you are looking at this clients "funds account" rather than the "retainer account".

When you enter a beginning balance funds transaction on the funds tab of the matter you can't easily delete it. I instruct my clients to enter the beginning balance as a standard funds transaction as you have more control.

The only thing you can do in your case is either close and purge the client and start over or do a withdrawal from funds to correct and then enter correct transaction.
