Need Assistance with Timeslips 2009 - Unable to Open Database From Two Machines at same time

SOLVED

We recently had to move timeslips to a new server.

Since then, we have another user that has timeslips on their workstation. When the workstation is in timeslips database, the server cannot access the timeslips database and vice versa. Error is below.

I have checked the server and the workstation. both install paths is pointed to T:\Timeslips\ where the .cfg file is located.

I have tried to clear all licensing and relogged with same result using station administrator and swapped out the Install path to T:\Timeslips\ and verified it in the HELP/ABOUT section.

Anyway for me to get both this workstation and server to log into the same database. We need this because we use Amicus that requires a exchange information sync every so often and we are having problems doing this everytime the workstation is already in the database before the server.

Supposely this wasn't a problem until after the server move. Any ideas as I am completely dumbfounded and we don't have support anymore.

I also noticed that the server and the workstation reports different users licenses being used. The server showed nothing while the workstation showed 3-4 before I cleared it originally.

Another program is accessing your Timeslips database in a way that prevents you from accessing it.

Check for these causes:
1. The file paths to each installation folder must look the same except for the drive letter.
I:\Timeslips and J:\Timeslips are the same. I:\ and J:\Timeslips are not.

If one of the stations is the server, it may be the culprit. It must use the same file path as other stations.

On each computer, check the Installation Folder in Help; About.

Use the Change Install Path command in Station Administrator on the computer that has a different file path.

2. Timeslips is installed in multiple locations. Only one installation can access a database.

3. A non-Timeslips program is using your database.

4. Run Station Administrator's Diagnose This Computer command for additional diagnostics.

Can you verify that you have only 1 Timeslip.cfg installed and it's on the server. There should be none on the workstations.  Also, can you go into the registry on that workstation with the problem and see where it thinks Timeslips install files and database is.  Sometimes this happens when you have mixed XP and WIn7 workstations and are using mapped drives instead of UNC.

Sounds like your two T:\ drives are not mapped to the same place. Thus, you are hitting two different CFG files.

Remap one of the T:\ drives, or rename one of the CFG files to force a machine to look for the one remaining CFG.

    Hope this helps.

Both the server and the workstation is mapped to T:\Timeslips\ which is ported to \\server\apps\ shared.

I only see one CFG in the timeslips folder and I manually pointed both of them to T:\timeslips on the two machines last night without success.

Below is the server regedit to see where the install path is pointed to. I wouldn't have the workstation until afterhours as their a user on that machine until then.

Yes, the DATABASE path is T:\Timeslips\ALAData\ which is fine and should be the same for both machines, but notice the INSTALL Path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Timeslips\.  That is likely your culprit.

There should be only ONE CFG file and everyone should hit it via the same path.  In your case, it looks like that should be T:\Timeslips\Timeslip.CFG.

Rename the one on the C:\ drive so that the program prompts you for it when you open it, then point to the common one on T:\.

    Hope this helps.

    Nancy you are a genius.

So their was another timeslips.cfg file I didn't realize in the C:\ directory. Renamed it and repointed to new T:\Timeslips which now got me into the same database as the workstation without a error.
