Installing TimeSlips 2012 on Windows 7 (64-bit)

Installing TimeSlips 2012 on Windows 7 (64-bit)

We are a small Law Firm and currently upgrading our computers Operating System from Windows XP to Windows 7 (64-bit) ... TimeSlips 2012 is currently running on our network and the database is stored on our File Server ...

I ran into several problems trying to install TimeSlips 2012 on Windows 7 ... Is there a known documented sequence to do that ???

Also the BDE version that comes with TimeSlips 2012 is 32-bit ... Is there a BDE 64-bit version ???

Appreciate all the help and guidelines ...

Thanks, Reda

No, not really, the install procedure is the same for 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

What generally can cause issues is security rights.  The end user has to have the right to edit the registry when running Timeslips.  Not just when installing.  So basically, they need to be an admin on their own local machine.

Without knowing what your "several problems" were, it is hard to say what might make a difference for you.  The 2012 should have both the 32-bit BDE and the 64-bit BDE in the LoclInst folder.

    Hope this helps.

    Nancy,

Thanks for the inside and helping me out ...

I am trying to avoid giving Local Admin rights to the Secretaries ...

Also, I couldn't find the BDE 64-bit under the LoclInst ... Can I download it from somewhere else ???

I uninstalled and re-installed TimeSlips and deleted the Borland folder from both c:\Program Files (x64) and c:\Program Files (x64)\Common Shared ...

The behavior is having the TimeSlips launching but no Login Popup and then it is frozen ...

I hope that from your experience you can give me more guidelines to follow  ...

Thanks again for your suggestions ...

Under the loclinst folder there should be a bde folder.  Run setup.exe from within that folder.

However your problem sounds like one I have seen when firms have team viewer installed. Check and make sure it is not installed. If it is, exit completely and timeslips try again.

    Caren,

Actually we don't use TeamViewer for Remote Management ...

As for the BDE folder there is only one setup.exe file and it launched 32-bit BDE installer ...

Is there a BDE 64-bit installer that Sage released for TimeSlips 2013 or 2014 that can work for 2012 ???

Let me know your thoughts ...

    Thanks, Reda

There is no 64-bit version of BDE.

I would recommend for the purposes of installation granting admin rights temporarily, and setting UAC to Never Notify.  Returning them back to your desired setting afterwards may cause some minor issues since Timeslips is modifying files in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Timelips folder and the registry settings for both Borland and Timeslips on a continual basis as the program is utilized.

    Reda,

As stated by Roger, there is no 64-bit version of BDE.  You would use the 32-bit version.

    Ooops, my bad.

I think I got my numbers switched around.  There used to be a 16-bit BDE and a 32-bit BDE.

Both Caren and Roger are correct, there is no 64-bit BDE.

    Sorry for the misdirection.
