Streams 204 error using TSImport

(This is more of an FYI post for the search engines.)

Client contacted me about an error message when they tried to use TSImport.  The error message was:

Error

Failed to read from U:\101215.TXT.  File was not created for use with this function.

Area: Streams

Code: 204

Class: tHdrFileStreamExceptionC

Turns out that you will get this error if you are trying to give TSImport the SOURCE file to be imported BEFORE you have told TSImport which import TEMPLATE to use.   Essentially the program asks for the Template file and the user supplies the Source file instead.

To remedy, just provide the Template file first, then the Source and you will be all set.  Or, as I just did for my client, set up a button on her desktop that automates the import process down to three clicks.

It is not necessarily and error per se in that a TXT file is, in fact, not correct formatted for use as a Template.  But just wanted to post this here so that the search engines can pick it up and provide a target for anyone getting that Streams 204 error in TSImport.

Hope this helps.
