I don't know of a way to set a default font, but once you have the slip open, you can right-click in the description area and choose to Increase Display Font and that will make it bigger.  You might want to do it a couple of times to get nice big text.

I just tested making it bigger in my v2009, then exiting and going back in and it seemed to "stick" so it might work for you.
