Continuing Error - Attempted to Write to Database...

Hi:  We are a mulit-user firm with our database on a server. We use Timeslips version 2010 and we continually get the following error:

Attempted to write to database but was prevented.  Another station may have failed while writing its own data leaving the database unable to take additional modifications.

Have everyone exit Timeslips and try again.

Area: Table

Code: 133

Adress Exception tBDETableExceptionC in module Timeslip.exe at 0093E63F.

Version 18.0.2.0515

Table: Slip

Records: 0

BDE Code: 10249

We have called Timeslips support NUMEROUS times & it never fixes the problem.  We get everyone to exit timeslips, clear the open timeslips files on the server, delete the PDOXUSRS.NET file, I run regular data verifications & do regular back-ups.

We are now experiencing these errors on an almost daily basis, multiple times & generally firm wide at the same moment.  We have had our IT people call support & look into it themselves with no real results.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • You are not going to find the solution in Timeslips.  This is not a software issue, but a network issue.

The error refers to a Borland Database Engine error re: Lock file timeout.

See this post from another forum:  www.delphigroups.info/2/df/364608.html  and show it to your network folks. It may help them resolve the problem.

You are correct.  Timeslips tech support can clear the problem, but they cannot prevent it.

    Hope this helps.

  • Nancy,

Your link gives me a "The page cannot be found" error message.

  • Hmm, thanks Laurie.

I got to it via a Google search, the hit is pretty deep into the site and it doesn't have any navigation to it.  If you Google:

    HELP BDE-error 10249 (LockTimeOut) ?

it should be the first hit.  Also, Googling $2809 will also get you similar posts, all pointing to a networking lock issue.

    Thanks for letting me know.

    Hope this helps.

  • I copied & pasted the link & came up with the page.  I am giving this information to our IT guys & crossing my fingers.  Thank you very much for help.

  • Do you have word perfect or other programs that use BDE? I would suggest unintalling and reinstalling BDE.

  • We do not use Word Perfect but Microsoft Word.  We have received prompts to update our BDE before.  But we were told by support to click "Never Update".  How would we go about reinstalling BDE?

  • If you are getting a message about updating BDE, I think you should say YES.

    Hope this helps.

  • In addition to Nancy's comment about updating BDE settings, I would ask TS Tech for the KB article on Optimizing BDE Settings.  Apply those changes to the BDE in Control Panel and in the registry on workstations.

What steps should be taken for Uninstalling / reinstalling BDE?  Never messed with BDE before.  Thanks.
