How do I move Timeslips 2012 from my PC to the server?

How do I move Timeslips 2012 from my PC to the server?

I am concerned that this program is on an individual PC and not on the network server.  If this PC crashes, we cannot access Sage Timeslips.  I must move this program over to the server.

I've seen this done for other programs.

Can someone help me?

Thank you.

  • Depends to a large extent on your anticipated use of the program and how many licenses you have purchased.

Do you intend to run the application on the server or do you simply want to have the database and backup files on your server?

  • The intended use is to be able to access the Timeslip program and database on the network server from any one of our three workstations.  We have one license so only one person can access the program, which is fine.

I feel that it is important to have the database on the server for safety purposes, because if the one computer that the program is currently downloaded on crashes or burns out, the program is lost.  The computers are remotely backed up so the database should be protected.  I don't know why the program was installed on the c drive of the workstation.  Also, the program was downloaded online from the Sage website, so we do not have any CDs with the program on it, which might be a problem for us.

I appreciate your interest and assistance.

  • Having only one licenses means that only one computer can access the program, not one computer at a time. The license is not concurrent.

You can install the program from the download to wherever you want it to go on the server and then just copy/move the data from the local machine to the server.

Since you only have the one license, after that, you can rename the Timeslip.cfg file that exists on the local machine.  Then, when you launch Timeslips from that local machine, you can simply point to where the new Timeslip.cfg file is and wherever you moved the data to.
