TS 2010 opens to a gray screen

It seems to be opening normally, then it opens to a gray screen.  The menus and icons along the top do appear.  The menu dropdrop downs do drop down but choosing options doesn't work.  Nothing happens.  The same with the icons.  I can click them but there is no response at all.

Anyone have a clue what could be going wrong here?

My suspicion is that something is open "off the screen" where you can't see it.  Some things you can try:

    1. Click on Window  - close All. Then close and reopen Timeslips and see if that resolves the issue

    2. Go to setup - preferences. Click on interface - restore all windows to default size and position.

    3. Close Timeslips on the local workstation find the prefs.prf file and rename it to oldprefs.prf. Find the timeslip.ini file (should be in the windows or windows'/system folder and rename it. Reopen Timeslips. You should get a message about not being able to find your preferences file, it's okay. If this works you will need to setup your preferences "afresh".

OK, 1 and 2 won't work because nothing happens when I choose dropdowns.  I will try #3. The only way it closes is with the Windows Task Manager since clicking the X in the upper right doesn't work either.

#3 didn't work either.  I'm thinking it may be time to upgrade my software.  I am glad my data is backed up.

You can try uninstall / reinstall. But yes, it is probably time to upgrade.

Thanks for your help, Caren.  You are amazingly patient as usual.

Thanks, Nancy, but there really is nothing on the bottom oft he screen except the path to the file.  No scroll bar.  The entire screen is gray with the dropdowns and icons on top.  Since we no longer have the discs (and since it's really time anyway), I think we're just going to upgrade to 2013.

    Thanks for your helpl

Is Timeslips only installed on this computer? If it is installed on a server then you can uninstall from this workstation and then reinstall from the loclinst folder on the server. That is the proper way to do a workstation install.

Yes, TimeSlips is only on this computer.  I seem to have found the issue though, thanks to a totally random question from my TimeSlips Consultant.  Apparently, TimeSlips and TeamViewer don't play well together.  The weird thing though is that the problem started a day before I installed TeamViewer.

Anyway, thanks for all your help!  Off to find another alternative to Logmein Free since it's going away and I apparently can't use TeamViewer.

Potential solution to the TeamViewer issue:

uncheck the option to use the TeamViewer QuickConnect button.

    Extras-Options-Advanced-General advanced settings-QuickConnect-Configure-Show QuickConnect button.

So is TimeSlips still functional with TeamViewr if the QuickConnect feature is disabled?

I have a user who like to work from home on weekends who uses Timeslips.

    Usually , but can't guarantee.

Disabling QuickConnect as per Caren's instructions worked for one of my clients this morning.

    Thanks Caren!
