Auto Allocation of Produced Quantities to Work Orders

SUGGESTED

Using 6.5

Scenario:

A quantity of a sub assembly is produced and tracked using the Production Plan function.  That produced quantity automatically gets allocated to a work order.  We want the produced quantity to be allocated to a different work order.

Question:

Is there a parameter or allocation rule which controls the allocation of product built and sent to inventory from the Production Plan function so that product does not get auto allocated to a work order?

I think there are actually two questions here.

    1. What controls the automatic allocation functionality in Work Order
    2. How to use Planning Workbench to make products for inventory rather than work order only.

To answer question #1, there is a setting called Allocation Method in Work Order Transactions that controls this function. Go to Setup, Manufacturing, Entry Transactions, Work Orders.

To answer question #2,  Try reviewing the reorder setup for the sub-assembly at Common Data, Products, Products-Site on the Reorder tab. It sounds like it is set to only generate demand when there is a quantity required on the parent bill; which results in the auto allocation you are seeing in Work Order. You will need to set requirements to generate demand for the sub-assembly to be stocked in inventory. This will give you the freedom to allocate the available stock at will.

I hope this answers your question.
