double sided printing mystery: over the weekend everything in X3 began printing double sided... any ideas?

SOLVED

Hi All,

On Monday we noticed that all of our multi page print jobs began printing double sided. (This was not happening the previous week).

This is system wide and not isolated to one printer, it is great for Picking Tickets but not great for printing checks :-)

During the troubleshooting process we have verified all print settings on printers.

Rebooted the "Windows 2012 R2 Print Server" (all print jobs other than X3 are behaving as expected)

This seems to have all of our support channels stumped, so I am reaching out to see if anyone in the community has had a similar issue.

    Hi Shane,

Here are the instructions from KB 54344 (also includes changing the paper size):

    1.  Setup Destinations, Destinations, Select Printer, Printer management comes up.

    2.  Select Properties, and select the default size of the paper to legal, set Source if applicable, and Duplex.

    3.  Set Printer destination to new printer.

    4.  In Crystal designer, setup Paper Size to Legal, and modify page header to legal size

    5. Print will print duplex and legal.

Note: I'll add additional wording so that two-sided and double- sided come up in the search.

We had something similar happen after updating printer drivers. Once printer properties on the print server were changed, X3 printed as expected without any change to X3 Destinations. In a few cases, we also had to adjust client settings on their printer properties.

This is probably due to the default printer that is assigned under windows. Log into your print\application server with the same windows\domain account the X3 print server service is running as. Open printer settings in control panel and check which printer is marked as the default. If it's one that has double sided printing as an option, pick another. I've had this problem with page orientation and size before. This usually solves it. It's amazing the wonky stuff the print server seems to inherit from the default printer.

    interocitor,
    Thank You for the reply!
    You are exactly correct.
I have no clue why it would choose to override the settings in X3 and windows in favor of what ever printer happens to be default but it does.

    Thanks Again - Shane
