CRM + Integrated ERP: Web-based or Citrix

We are in the process of deploying a custom solution that integrates ERP functionality into our Sage CRM.  The last hurdle involves enabling users to access the system in a way that makes sense.

We have our CRM (7.2) and ERP (2012) databases on one remote server (WS 2008 R2) that's also set up for Citrix.  Previously, users would access CRM over the internet, and ERP via Citrix.  The new solution is meant to allow users to access all the necessary functions relatively easily from the CRM interface.  The problem, though, comes down to how users will access this system.

We see two options:
1)  Connect to CRM over the internet as before.  However, this results in very slow load times when loading ERP windows (ie, PO entry, PO receipt.)  My connection registers download speeds of 15kb/s as the window waits to load...
2)  Connect to CRM via Citrix.  The performance using this method is great, but it appears to require that all connecting users have administrative privileges to the server, which is a security risk.

Without an effective way to access this system, we cannot go live.  Our partner is also trying to help us with this, and I've reached out to Sage Support, but I've yet to have been offered a workable solution.  I'm hoping someone lurking on this forum might be able to help.
