We use rental EQ , we are not a rental EQ provider! please help

SUGGESTED

Our company rents equipment very regularly, currently we track the equipment fees (rental cost, diesel, tax, etc) in a homemade excel sheet and it doesn't get input into sage until we receive an invoice. What is the best way to track rental equipment we are using? any help would be much appreciated.

I looked into the equipment module but it looks like more for a company that owns/ rents out equipment.

    Hi Donald,

The EQ module can be used for both owned and rented equipment. I have customers that regularly track their rented equipment in EQ as it allows them to preset the revenue rates charged to JC as an EQ cost. You can set up generic pieces of equipment if you do not want to make up a separate ID for each new rented piece. When you do rent a piece of that type, you can use that one. You can have different rates set up that way if the rental price is higher or lower, you can charge the job accordingly. In addition, if you do decide to make unique IDs for each rented piece, you can track all the rental information in custom fields, which can be use for reporting and possibly in some formulas for determining rates.

    Hope that helps!

thanks for the help, right now we are using purchasing and its a nightmare. I did a demo with a salesman and he didn't seem to think this would be a good fit for rental EQ, thanks for your input as I will look into again. Surely we can find a better way than what I am currently doing.

I can imagine PO would be horrible for that. I would be curious to know why your salesman did not think this would be a good fit. The accounting entries might be a bit different based on how you process the data, but overall I have seen this work rather well.
