We are still on 13.2: is there significant improvements and therefore reasons to upgrade to 15.1?

also, are there a lot changes that would require training our folks?

thanks

    Hi Brian@JWM,

There are a few things to consider with this, the most compelling being that Sage stated earlier in the year that only 14.1 and 15.1 would be supported for year-end. If you use Payroll and will be using the ACA workflow, there is an update in 15.1 pertaining to this.

There are some overall updates, such as faster report processing, that apply across the board, but to really answer your questions, it would be helpful to know what applications you have installed.

Also note, third-party applications (such as Core Associates' Timberscan) are currently being tested with 15.1 and may limit what version you can be on.

Please provide some additional information for your situation.

    Thanks,

    John

thanks John that's all useful. I just took over technical support for this company and was trying to figure out why they were still on such an older version and how painful it would be to upgrade to either 14.1 or 15.1. They're using pretty much every module in SAGE - don't seem any external 3rd party apps except maybe myassistant - which I'm not sure that's really considered a 3rd party app.

our accounting folks seem to struggle to get all they need out of SAGE and I'm still trying to find out specifics there. but we are very heavy job costing shop with 7 entities, in 7 states, with projects in 42 states and more union shops that I can count. And all the different tax laws etc.

I really need to get MyAssistant working better to alieviate some pain points and I notice the new version has a much different interface so thought that might cut down the learning curve. but not sure.

but given that 13.2 won't be supported - I think that answers my question - not we just need to decided on 14.1 or 15.1 and get moving. I can do the server upgrade fast enough - I just have to check on what changes so I can see how much training we might need to do.

    Hi Brian!

You can also review the release notes and changed for both versions here:

    cdn.na.sage.com/.../CREDocs.html

The biggest change from 13.1 to 14.1 and up is the new version of Crystal reports. All if the reports we provide are upgraded to work with the new version of Crystal, however you may have custom reports that will need to be upgraded. In most cases, the upgrade process can be done using included upgrade tool, however due to the changes in some of the Crystal functions, there may be some reports that will need to be modified to work with the upgraded components.

    Thanks!

    Hi Brian,

I you are heavy into Job Costing you are probably also heavily using Commitments in Job Cost. In that case, there is a new capability in 15.1 to create Word documents directly from a commitment. You can create a template document, such as a Letter of Award, then print it direcly from the Commitment pulling in automatically the relevant data from that commitment.
