Terminal Server -- hardware recommendations

PLEASE HELP!  I would like to switch to a terminal server (vs the workstation installations I have now -- I hate the uninstall/reinstall each time there is an update/upgrade).

I have a Dell PowerEdge R720 server with 4 bays available with MS Windows server 2012.

What configurations would you recommend to allow 13 users to use Timberline (Accounting and Estimating) with efficiency and minimal delays while using the software?

My network tech recommends buying 13 Remote Desktop licenses, installing terminal server on one of the hard drives and the data in another, with a Raid 2 or 10 configuration??? Sorry, not familiar with raid configurations...AND adding 120GB of RAM... is this setup sufficient?  I asked Timberline's tech support and was told they cannot make specific hardware recommendations ... that this forum should be able to help.  Thanks!!!!

Hi..not sure what application you are running. We have been using 5 RDP connections for CRE 300 on a 2003 HP server (1 quad core at 2.2 ghz)  with raid 5 over 3 drives & 4gb of ram. Has worked without any major issues for several years. Have installed RDP role on same server as other server roles. Many recommend putting RDP server on separate computer for security & performance reasons, but we have had no issues in either regard. From what I understand, server 2012 comes with a couple of virtual machines so you can install the RDP server on one of the virtual machines, and the data & applications on the host (the computer itself). We just purchased a 2012 server standard with two 6-core processors at 2.2ghz with 36gb of ram & will be running about 10 users on 4 drives with RAID 5. We had the computer set up with a hot spare drive in case one of the active drives fails. I don't know about RAID 2, or RAID 10.

    Hope this helps.
