Project Job Cost - Cost Account GL Link import

Hello,

I am currently using Timberline Office 9.8. We have a number of jobs with associated cost codes that require a link to specific GL Cost Accounts. We have created approximately 20 new cost codes that require linking to various GL accounts for around 200 jobs. This would take a really long time to do manually in the job cost module under Setup>Cost Codes, so I was hoping to find out how I can import them.

We have imported these once upon a time before, however the person that did this is no longer with us and we have been unable to find any notes on the process. In addition to this I don't have access to do any exporting or admin related tasks, as I only have basic user and setup access.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could provide the import .txt file parameters that include the ability to link a job and cost code to a specific GL account. I have a suspicion that this may be possible to do through 'import estimates'.

Hope someone can assist.

Regards,

Kathy

Kathy, you ask a very interesting question. You can use import estimates to get the Job cost codes setup. However, the estimate import file layout is in Job Cost Help topics and does not include the cost account.

The Job cost code cost account field is ODBC replaceable so you may use Microsoft Access to get the cost account in the Job Cost Cost Code cost account field.

Thanks SBarber. I thought that perhaps this was possible to do through estimates, but I guess not. I don't have access to turn off 'create entries', however I will talk to the people that can and work with them on this.

At the moment when I attempt this I am advised that the import cannot override the default cost account, as our debit accounts are set up to be system generated.

I will report back on this. Thanks again.
