Where can I find written documentation for Office Connector?

SOLVED

Is written documentation available for Office Connector's import feature?  We need to be able to import data from Excel into Sage.

    Hi Kim!

    Thanks for post!

If you are looking to push data into Sage you would need to do so through Microsoft Access and ODBC Databases.  Excel would not be able to perform the task you are mentioning since you can only pull data tables into Excel rather than push data out back into Sage.  To pull in data you would use ODBC Datasources as well.  You will find the instructions for setting up an ODBC DSN for Accounting data in Article 17865, this is similar to what Office connector does.  You can create queries in Access that can push and pull data from Sage. Article 33166 touches on the steps to create these queries.   Updating Sage through a third party component like this may not be recommended for certain Sage applications and/or tasks, so I would recommend working with a consultant on a project such as this.

    Hope that helps!

Wendy:  I'm not sure what you mean, Office Connector can push data back into Timberline via an excel interface.

Kim, Office Connector has a help topic on Import. If you click on About Office Connector from th Desktop>Excel-Based Reporting and select About Office Connector, you can see the topic from there.

You are correct @Mike T. in that Office Connector can push/import data into the software BUT only in specific cases.  Office Connector can only import data into data tables that already have an import function. GL Budgets, PR Time Entry, and AP Recurring Invoices are just a few examples.

I had assumed that @KimK only had the "Starter" version of Office Connector which would not include that Import capability by default. The solution above would be steps/actions she could perform now, until she is able to contact Office Connector directly here for more information.

    Thanks everyone!

@wshi you are correct, I only have the "Starter" version of Office Connector and will upgrade our version with Event 1.
