Printing Pay Stubs emailed from My Assistant

SUGGESTED

We recently started emailing employees their pay stubs using the My Assistant built in report for doing this task.  We added the option of making the files password protected.  It has gone smoothly except one flaw I have found...some PDF readers take the security requirement and disallow printing of the document while others do not (RE: one can print with Adobe Reader).  It seems the alternate PDF reading programs are assuming printing not allowed since the document probably does not specify printing is allowed or not.  Has anyone else noticed this and any better workarounds vs. having the users drop the attachment out of their email and then open with Adobe?

Thanks

Thank you for your post !

What version and update of Sage 300 CRE are you currently using? What version of Sage MyAssistant are you using?

These details help other users compare their set up to yours. Also, what scenarios have you test thus far with the different Adobe versions?

    Hello,

I apologize for not adding that info but it is 13.1 on both as to versions.  All versions of Adobe Reader that I have tried, which includes 9-11 variants,  open the files and can print with no changes required beyond entering the password (last 4 of SS number)  but all third party readers I have tried, we specifically use PDF X-Change but I downloaded a few others including Foxit, automatically disallow printing of these files.  One can go into the settings of each pay stub and make changes to allow printing but that is fairly cumbersome.  I was told that the reason the third party readers are disallowing printing is that they are interpreting password protection as disallowing anything, including printing, in lieu of instructions otherwise from the PDF itself.

I will find a suitable workaround as needed but after seeing this issue this I thought it must have been addressed before since so many different readers are limiting the printing capability.

    Jeff,

Thank you for posting this questions and subsequent detailed information as this is a new observation.  This seems to be a matter of fine-tuning the PDF format and I will send this information to our development team.  Would you be able to send me the steps you go through when you "go into the settings of each pay stub and make changes to allow printing"? My email is [email protected].

In the meantime, the work around would be to use the free Adobe Reader to open the PDFs.

    Thank you,

I can confirm the issue. I have a lot of Foxit Phantom PDF Business deployments on my non-power user PDF people, including myself. Saves a LOT of $$ over Adobe Acrobat Standard, and even more so Acrobat Professional. I cannot print my most recent paystub from the MA distributed, password protected, PDF.
