Sage 100 Contractor version 19.6 is not compatible with Windows 10

Sage 100 Contractor version 19.6  and lower have not been tested with Windows 10 and therefore it is not officially a supported operating system.  Windows 10 was not available for testing when 19.6  was released.  Check out the knowledgebase article 64978 for more information.

We are in the process of testing Windows 10 and we will update the knowledgebase when we have more details.

    December 11.

    Still no word.

Are we to assume that the technical issues involved in getting Sage 100 Contractor (19.6 et al) to run in what is a basically an unchanged 32/64 bit OS environment are insurmountable?

Has Sage directly engaged with Microsoft to try to determine the cause(s) of the problem(s) and arrive at solutions?

The software involved is, to put it bluntly, very mundane. It is highly likely that the existing code base could simply have been recompiled and the move to Windows 10 would have appeared seamless.

I'm deeply troubled by my own experience with trying to install 19.6 on a generic Windows 10 box. My attempts (including trying various compatibility modes) appeared to be flowing smoothly until reaching the last few steps of the install. The final stages of the install seems to be the point where the bulk of the non-proprietary / licensed components are installed. Could Sage be dragging their feet because of licensing issues rather than technical issues? I hope not, but I imagine there are a growing number of conspiracy theories circulating as a result of this.

As of now, all we are certain of is that Sage has failed dramatically. They have not communicated with the customer base in a timely or effective manner. We know that with the release of v20.0 Sage is aiming to finally rid itself of the current codebase and move to a SQL Server environment. That transition,in itself, is at least a decade overdue. Unfortunately, even in the pre-release specs, Windows 10 is not mentioned, and one could easily be lead to believe that the documentation showing Windows 8.1 as the highest supported version was accurate. Sage's strategy for the product  seems to have been to treat it as a cash cow for as long as possible and limit development and maintenance efforts to a few punch cards and the occasional piece of baling wire. It's hard to describe: it's sad, it's shameful.

    We'll see what 2016 brings.

  • Aloha Heidi,

The KB article you site (64978) is for Sage 300 CRE

Any chance S100C v19.8 will be compatible with Windows 10?

    Thanks,

    ~j

  • It may not be officially sanctioned yet but Sage 100 Contractor version 19.6 (as well as 19.7) work just fine on Windows 10. I have installed it on many customers already with no issues at all. It is a very simple installation with the current dBASE database.
