Doing two payrolls for 2 different pay periods at one time

Question

I am having to put a older payroll into Sage from the beginning of this quarter before we started using Sage. I have not finished with that Payroll but it is time for the real payroll to be entered. Can I do 2 payrolls at one time? Since the pay periods will be different and check dates will be different will they overlap in any way or is this safe to do this?

Yes you can be processing two different payroll periods at the same time. Just be extra careful to select the correct record numbers when final computing or posting. 
 
Also, older payrolls prior to starting Sage should only be "startup" type records so they don't affect your financials since those costs were brought over via the startup journal entry.

I left our an important part/comment: 
The startup records are needed in order for the system to know when various taxes like SUI and FUTA have met their maximum wages for the year. So you'll want to make those your priority and finish them first, or your other records may compute taxes incorrectly.
