Setting up a Payroll deduction for Roth contributions.

SUGGESTED

I need to set up a payroll deduction for Roth contributions.  The only suggestion I can find in the Knowledge base is for Sage 100 which recommends setting the deduction type to pension and deselecting all taxes.  Is this the same for Businessworks?

No, the article for Sage 100 would not apply to Sage BusinessWorks.  The KnowledgeBase article you want for BusinessWorks is #18271 "How to setup 401K or IRA deductions".  One suggestion for KnowledgeBase searches.....since the KnowledgeBase does store articles for ALL of Sage products you want to make sure you minimize your search to only the Sage BusinessWorks articles.  When doing searches, make sure you go to the "Products" box and select the product "Sage BusinessWorks" (with no version number and NOT the one that is version specific...ie. Sage BusinessWorks 2018, Sage BusinessWorks 2017,...etc.)  This will minimize your search to only Sage BusinessWorks articles.

    Hi Coleen,

Thanks for your response.  I looked at the article and I guess the answer I'm looking for is whether or not I check all the taxable boxes since a Roth deduction is after tax, or if there are certain boxes I should not check.  The "401K or IRA Deduction" instructions are worded specific to 401K deductions and not Roth IRA deductions.  Since there were specific instructions out there for Roth IRA deductions in Sage 100 I was hoping there would be more specific instructions for BusinessWorks Roth IRA deductions.  Is there anywhere else (within Sage) that I can inquire about this?

    Thanks,

    Rhonda

    RhondaR-

Unfortunately, we can not tell you if your deduction will be taxable or not.  Generally if you are unsure or have questions on if a deduction should be marked taxable or not, then we are going to recommend you work with your tax advisor to answer that for you and your company.

    Thanks,

    Coleen
