How to restore BW 2009 data from old server PC to new server PC with new BW2015

SOLVED

Hello,

A customer has BW2009 on a 12 year old PC running Win2KPro as server, WG product code. It has good data in sage\bwdata and program in sage\bwprog. It has 3 workstations (one Win7 and two XP) and all access BW and data flawlessly over the network. The problem is this: a 12 year old PC with a 15 year old O/S is like a ticking time bomb. The company has decided (wisely IMHO) to be proactive and buy 3 new PC's (all Win 7), buy BW2015 (also product code WG), install it on the existing Win 7 PC and install the client program on the other 2 new Win 7 PC's. I have created and shared sage\bwdata and sage\bwprog folders on the new server, all 3 new PC's run Sage BW2015 great over the network, no errors, but of course, no company data! I have backed up system and data files on the old BW2009 server and have both on a flash drive as .ZIP files, the format that it creates when you run the backup built into BW2009. I have 2 questions: 1) How do I convert this BW2009 data to operate with BW2015? 2) Once that is done, assuming it does need conversion, how do I get this converted or ready data and system backup into or 'restored' onto the new BW2015 server? I'm hoping it's a simple matter of copying the contents of one or more specific folders of the UNZIPPED system and data files from the backed up BW2009 into specific folders on the BW2015 server. That I can handle. I hope someone can help, as this trucking company has invested over $7k in software and PC's the last couple of weeks and so far has not obtained a return for their investment. Thanks in advance!

You can use your File,Restore option to restore you V2009 backup into your V2015 install. (Yes, you can go straight from v2009 to v2015) Once backups are restored (you will want to restore both the company backup and system back), you should be prompt to run the data base update on your restored file - that updates your v2009 backup into v2015. If you are not prompt for the update, see article on How to update company data files. I would also recomment going to our KnowledgeBase and review the articles: Resolution ID:51648 How to move Sage BusinessWorks Accounting 2015 to a new server or location; ID:19091 How to update company data files

Thanks for your help, I was successful! I was pretty sure I knew what to do from the beginning but was not sure how to get the backed up (zipped) BW2009 system & data files from old PC into the new BW2015 PC and in what format, zipped or unzipped. When I discovered there was a 'Browse' function to locate those old files (which I had copied from a flash drive to a 'BW2009 Backups' folder on the desktop), it was a piece of cake. The restore utility unzipped them, I then checked both 'system' and 'data' and updated them both to the new 2015 format. Not a single data bit was dropped and the new BW2015 even recalled the forms used on the old BW (like payroll check, invoice, etc.). Thanks again!
