Generating a detailed G/L for a specific period in BusinessWorks 2013.

SUGGESTED

Previewing a Trial Balance - Detailed with Reporting period "Specific posting date range" generates a report that does not include beginning balances.

Using "Current fiscal year" generates a report that includes activity past the period in which I'm interested but does include beginning balances.

Discussion with the Sage BusinessWorks Help Desk, indicated that this version of software can not generate a detailed G/L for a specific time period and include beginning balances.  But the auditors have sent me an Excel file that does generate the report as needed.  The previous accountants are not responding to requests for help.

When running the Trial Balance for "Specific posting date range” Sage BusinessWorks assumes the reader only wants to view transactions for a specific date range, and does not print the beginning balances.  The Trial Balance prints the beginning balances only when a full month is selected (or full year – current fiscal year, prior fiscal year) in the 'Reporting Period' field, but does not print the beginning balances if a date range is selected. Even if a date range is selected from the first through the last day of the month,

Running the report for “Current fiscal year” does give you beginning balances.  If you are selecting “Current fiscal year” and are not getting beginning balances, then verify if you are using a custom report.  In Report (on the top of the screen), verify ‘Trial Balance-Detail’ is selected and rerun the report for Current fiscal year.  If you are still not getting beginning balances when you run the report for Current fiscal year, then I would recommend you call customer support at 800-447-5700 for additional troubleshooting.

    Hi, Coleen,

Appreciate your response.  I have been using the "Current fiscal year" selection and getting beginning balances with that selection.  My current need though is to be able to run a report for a quarter that includes beginning balances, three months of transactions, and ending balances.

Using "Current fiscal year" yields beginning balances, all transactions posted so far this year (Jan-June), and ending balances.

Unfortunately, we do not have a report that fits those requirements. My only other suggestion, to get close to what you are looing for, is to run the report one month at a time. that will give you beggining and ending balances for each month.
